Epic Musical

Image
If our life was a movie It would be an epic musical Full of adventure With love so movable I met a soldier and was carried away You sang ‘The way you make me feel’ Then the record continued to play I met “The Producers” Without the alluring But we were from two different worlds Like “Westside Story” Despite our differences We had a lot in common And knew it was worth investing time in So we began fusing Singing our song To “The Sound of Music” Then “The King and I” Became one To him “My Fair Lady” But our song wasn’t done We journeyed to forever after Creating more music Full of love and laughter We were “Singing in the Rain” And “All that Jazz” All the while running toward “Fame” My love, you are “The Music Man” And we a duet Serafin A “Little Night Music” With strings and horns “Meet Me in St. Louis” Because a “Star is Born” “A Chorus Line” continues Taking “Cinderella” to New York But no “Bye Bye Birdie” Th...

My Blessing

Image
My Blessing For eight years I prayed. I sauntered in faith. Though I became weary, I continued to run the race. For eight years I cried. Not willing to forgive my past. Unconsciously condemning myself; Forcing the storms to last. For eight years you heard me. You inclined your ears to my cry; Giving me completion; With new beginnings, I sighed. At the end of my eight years, Blessing began to fall at my feet. God opened the floodgates of Heaven; Now my mustard was larger than a seed.

Bottle of Dreams

Brandy sat on the shelf waiting for the time it accompanied a dream being aloof to man's crime unnerving the innermost expressions whether he'd be Banner or the Hulk to be kissed by cruel affections It sits there dangling an escape a maze through a magical door with so many memories to erase or rather to eradicate and make it a just reality not afraid to side-step fate But Brandy is not a device a sinful bottle of schemes a method to make foolish right while yesterday's tainted with slurred lines and a foreseeable dank end

A New Dawn

Image
"A New Dawn" by Stephinie R. Johnson Yesterday I was afraid of love Afraid of life I did not believe in myself Or the journey that was given to me I allowed heartache and strife To take anchor And devour me Today, I chose to view my life differently and say The heck with that No more running from the mirror No more saying I can’t No more thinking I’m old No more denying what He grants I learned to love me Learned to be me Learner to accept me Learned to be free I am enjoying this life And loving me better than anyone else can Choosing to be the best me Choosing to believe in me Along with accepting all the attention My life is not perfect But I am perfect in His eyes I am moving forward Though I may stumble Trip and fall I am happily me And that’s no lie. Theme Song: Feeling Good by Nina Simone

Happy Birthday Steve Harvey

Image
"I decided to write a poem to celebrate one of my favorite comedians, tv stars, and show hosts: Steve Harvey. I am posting this early to ensure he has a chance to read it and start off his celebration for the entire month of January right. Mr. Harvey, much love for all you do!!!" Dear Steve Harvey, You’ve reached another milestone, With a life so full of ups and downs, Fighting to make a name for yourself, When only your car was your throne, And your passion was your crown. Giving all that you had to make it, Pushing not to quit, Doing what was needed in times of struggle, Stepping up to the plate in this war of toggle. People see you now, but with only a half look, They chose to only read the last chapter, Not knowing this is just the beginning of your book. You have inspired many and encouraged others, Teaching women to seek more, While also lifting our brothers. Entrepreneur, comedian, and host, Just a few hats you wear, A...

Morning is Gone

Image
The morning is gone and noon is nigh We try to live life, but escape the flight But we have all changed our tunes No one still names their child April May or June It is a way of the past when summer was spring's best friend creating exhilarating memories where hearts were made to blend Now the overcast of winter remains ever-present binding the love of happiness in its essence

A Queen's Fall

Image
Yesterday I was a queen living on top of the world ruling my kingdom embracing all of my goodness loving life and all I had seen Then at midnight, I was fooled, deceived, tricked robbed of all that I once stood for no more proud queen I became an empty shell a candle with no wick I tried to hold on to my kingdom despite the invasion but I was too late it had already planted seeds like a succubus absorbing my power voiding my inclination I was a hypothesis null I became a subject to my own army overtaken without might color without the col and a lullaby without the lull this queen is down the endless set to the sun fallen and distraught fighting against thousands, yet standing as one

A Man Named Justice

Image
There once was a man named Justice Who vowed to serve and protect Wearing proud a uniform of blue Selfless service he must project He came across a man of color  Not what he normally saw This was a man with no malice or intent But stop Justice became enthralled  This man by which did not look dim But he stood proud and stout Justice became filled with fear and envy And took his weapon and waived about Now this man who was proud and stout Did no wrong and yet could not believe That Justice he was taught to honor Had acted in a manner he could not conceive Justice grew with fear and rage And demanded this man's pride Forcefully shouting and aiming While the proud and stout man cried Asking for protection and rightful service But just that he was denied Justice became judge and jury And laid this man on his side He did not have guilt or shame For his actions through fear were justified No jury would convict Justice They will just justify how h...

Freedom

Image
The pain in our eyes claiming our lives until others step in our shoes they will continue with this feud this epoch of misery death and destruction calling it defense but it's really just an abduction of another soul from this earth treading with no malice just given the wrong color at birth The outside world looks on with disgust because they war against them but chose to silence us what do we stand for in's not liberty nor freedom stripped of our dignity being black in a nation of hate is not compared to the injustice or rights of the gays it's not compared to the married rights or so called freedom plights at anytime they can chose how they look to others blending in as done for years, my brother This is all about how I can be shot for looking, talking, walking, sitting a certain way I can be choked, hung, stabbed, raped, and denied life because I was born this way Inside my veins are blue my heart beats and I have lungs too but because m...

Black American Apartheid

Image
They captured us and enslaved us. Put chains around our necks and raped us. We fought for injustice and they maimed us. For a minute we had hope, but really they just gave us more rope Polluting our minds with dope America the free was never meant for us. The constitution changed...nah it was just bent for us We are not part of the human race We are still just monkeys with a new face Blaza blah I'm not talking hate What I dish out is not even second rate The Jim Crow Laws are still in effect Our men became cattle at best Destroy our families what’s next The lynch mob put on new masks With new weapons no more nooses and crosses Just a gun and a flash Marking us off like completing a task Lord have mercy on us In this genocide An African American apartheid but with cameras so they can’t hide Though they still lie Stashing guns and knives And staging suicides Going to aid other countries in their wars While ignoring what’s at their own front door We...

Scheming Baby

Image
So my parents left the dog to watch me play, by the pool side, I will stay. Ol' Benji better keep watching, cause in 5 minutes I'm running away I joke and I laugh, but I have a scheme Slowly slide into the water and then begin to scream When Ol' Benji jumps into the water I will punch him in his nose I will swim away joyfully ready, set, away she goes. Oh, I must leave behind a gift One that you must sniff. I have a surprise in my diaper There she blows, and floats adrift!!!

My September

I was embraced by the warmth of love. captured by its time-frozen grasp It brought me through the shade of winter; my season of despair It carried me to a burst of sunshine and the blossom of heaven's kiss Love's wind blew softly about my neck, as the fragrance of passion imploded my mind The sunshine became intense crucifying my patience I felt trapped in the timeless shadow of love's nest I studied the playbook and watched the film in search of some missed opportunities and fumbles on my part but I searched with judgement's eye Not allowing objection on my field blurring the flags and leaving the blame on the opposing one yard line I did not want to leave the shadow but I missed the sunshine living my life in the shade brought on a reckless endangerment of my heart making foolish calls rebutting all plays even refusing to return to the prized player I once was I thought losing was staying in the game rather, giving up was much worse I did no...

Savon

You are my life, my love, my inspiration I cannot continue in this journey with the idea of your discontent I pray for you, for your strength and for your safety You may not know about all I do while I am gone But know my journey is always to a better end Our paths sometime are parallel and distant But we are always on a journey connected by a bond Connected by a pureness that no one could ever destroy For the times you are hurting and feel alone Know that my heart is next to you Do not concentrate on the now, but gaze onto the future Pains of now are just motivation for when... When is the piece to the puzzle that no one else could fit The wonders and thoughts, the hope, and the faith For many years I have been paving a pathway for your safety So don't give up on me yet My heart laments while I am away The pain I see in your eyes when I return is like torture to my soul Better is coming and I want you to hold on The roller coaster is coming to and end And we...

Ode to Myself

WBS 3/2/1999 Beautiful in every way Upon the pedestal, there I stay Living in the moments of time still young The moon is lesser for I am the sun Being of wonder and love Jewels and pearl hand full and glove Endless talent there to share Act of mercy oh so fare Heart never once yet broke Never the cast of one's new yoke Soul to harmonize with time all so well until my cup runneth over with wine By my beautiful past to be made renown In script to be forever shown echoing to the future with melodious sounds I am loose and I am free I am the one who they call Stephinie!
