My September
I was embraced by the warmth of love.
captured by its time-frozen grasp
It brought me through the shade of winter;
my season of despair
It carried me to a burst of sunshine
and the blossom of heaven's kiss
Love's wind blew softly about my neck,
as the fragrance of passion imploded my mind
The sunshine became intense
crucifying my patience
I felt trapped in the timeless shadow of love's nest
I studied the playbook and watched the film
in search of some missed opportunities
and fumbles on my part
but I searched with judgement's eye
Not allowing objection on my field
blurring the flags
and leaving the blame on the opposing one yard line
I did not want to leave the shadow
but I missed the sunshine
living my life in the shade
brought on a reckless endangerment of my heart
making foolish calls
rebutting all plays
even refusing to return to the prized player I once was
I thought losing was staying in the game
rather, giving up was much worse
I did not understand
until I was stretched out on the field
prone
trying to escape the shadow
and capture a glimpse of the sun
I needed balance between the sun and my shade
finding it would return me to my happiness
and timeless phase
I submitted to this love once again
and let it pull me to the sun
in it I found my September.
